Last week, we proudly welcomed the first residents to 14 brand-new homes at Bebington Road, part of phase one of the New Ferry regeneration project.
To celebrate, residents were invited to a street party filled with ice creams, sandwiches, sunshine and the chance to meet their neighbours and the project team.
All 14 affordable rent homes at Bebington Road have been allocated with Regenda Homes, a social housing provider and part of The Regenda Group.
Lauren Huggon, Project Manager for New Ferry at The Regenda Group, said:
“It’s a real joy to welcome our first residents into their beautiful new homes in New Ferry. This is an exciting milestone not just for them, but for the wider community and all of us at Regenda, as we see the area come back to life.”
This move-in marks the first of many milestones in revitalising New Ferry following an explosion in 2017, which destroyed dozens of buildings, injured 81 people, and left lasting scars on the high street and in the community.
Phase one of the New Ferry regeneration project includes 34 affordable new homes developed by The Regenda Group in partnership with Wirral Council.
Site B, now complete, provides 14 homes for affordable rent. Site C on Boundary Road is set to follow later this year, offering 20 one- and two-bedroom apartments through Rent to Buy with Redwing, also part of The Regenda Group.
Cllr Mark Skillicorn, Regeneration Committee Chair at Wirral Council said:
“Delivering high-quality, affordable homes in New Ferry is a critical part of revitalising the town and building a sense of place and community.
“It’s fantastic to see the new residents now moving in and getting to know each other, as well as the progress being made on the wider scheme – it’s the first of many milestones to come.”
A further phase of the project, to bring an additional 43 new homes to New Ferry, is currently in the development stage. Which will also see over £3 million of public realm improvements including traffic calming measures, new planting, seating, and free car parking for residents and visitors.
