Creating Social Value with Petrus

Creating social value together, it’s rooted in the Regenda Group!

In 2024, Petrus, our charity supporting those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Rochdale, will return to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Tatton Park Flower Show for their 5th consecutive year.

By designing and delivering multi-award winning gardens, the charity challenges society’s perceptions of people who have experienced homelessness by demonstrating what they can achieve when they are empowered, trusted and believed in.

Behind the scenes, subsidiaries and staff from across the Regenda Group come together with external partners to ensure Petrus’ service users get this opportunity to shine!

Our construction and maintenance business M&Y have been part of the journey from the beginning, providing essential funding, help securing materials and logistical support. M&Y’s Managing Director, Gill Kelly said:

“It is great to be a part of The Regenda Group alongside incredible organisations that can support one another which can often lead to amazing opportunities for people in our communities. Over the last few years, we’ve been fortunate enough to see first-hand the positive impact this project has for Petrus’ service users, giving them self-confidence and boosting their wellbeing. We’re always so inspired by their achievements and can’t wait to see them bring another amazing garden to life in 2024!”

In addition, all employees across the Regenda Group can use their volunteer days to travel to Tatton, supporting service users on site to bring their garden display to life. Regenda Group Marketing and Communications Officer, Corinne McGinty, volunteered with service users during the build of The Empowerment Garden. She commented:

“The Regenda Group’s strong social purpose was a major draw for me when I applied for my role, so getting stuck into the Tatton Park project was really exciting for me. I was so impressed by the way the Petrus team supported each service user, while also spinning so many other plates like making sure deliveries arrived on time and that the build of the garden stayed on track.

During the show, I was able to help one of the service users, who was interested in starting a YouTube channel to document their own gardening work. Together, we met with YouTube sensation, The Cloud Gardener, getting his tips for succeeding on YouTube and even conducting a short interview to kickstart the service user’s channel!”

At Regenda, while social housing is our starting point, we recognise that true regeneration happens when all aspects of community thrive. Our charity Petrus not only works to support people in their time of need, but to empower individuals to make long term positive change in a way that works for them.

Petrus’ journey to Tatton Park is a demonstration of what happens when people come together to create opportunities for each other. We are proud that they are part of the Regenda Group.
